Name: Charon Alix
Nickname(s): None
Age: 20
Race: Vampire
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Homosexual
Ability: Empathy
Type: Psionic
Attributes: Enhanced strength and speed.
Appearance:
Charon has very pale, fair skin and light coppery hair, with striking blue eyes. He has a slender and almost fragile-looking build despite his strength, and stands at about five-foot-nine. He has a tattoo along one cheek, and graceful features with a mouth usually curved in a thoughtful smile. At least, when he's not around one of the scientists. Charon is usually seen with at least one snake on his person, and is fairly attractive.
Personality: Charon is a both mysterious and whimsical. If something catches his interest, he'll persue it, but it's hard to tell whether something will, or if it will be something he gets bored of quickly. He keeps to himself a lot, and usually has a sort of thoughtful, amused look on his face, fantasizing about possibilities, the past and the future, and the way that things are. Charon reads a lot, and is generally laid back, but that doesn't mean he lacks power and resources of his own.
Charon is relatively friendly, if sometimes hard to read. He's well aware that the world is a dark place, but feels that it doesn't hurt to try your best to overcome it, and that simply having survived thus far is a blessing in and of itself. He doesn't necessarily view the sub-race mutations as curses, but necessary adaptations, and because of this, doesn't think about his own status as a Psion negatively at all. He even feels that therians, while having their own set of difficulties, have a gift in their differences.
History: Before everything changed, Charon often suffered from migraines and problems with sleep patterns. He was very sensitive to negative emotions, and picked up on them very easily. He often went for walks to 'clear his head', and enjoyed being outdoors, as it seemed to help his headaches. The only downside is that he had blackouts, at times, and would wake up at odd hours after having been on a walk, in the middle of the nearby forest.
His parents tried to help get treatment for his conditions, but the doctors Charon visited had little luck with treating him. His parents became frustrated, and distanced themselves from Charon, sure that their child was 'flawed'. He pulled away from them, emotionally, as well. He'd never really thought of his condition as a flaw -- just a part of who he was. He spent even more time outdoors, exploring the winderness, than usual.
He was drawn to snakes, instinctively. Bullsnakes infested the area around his home, along with rattlers, and he found the creatures facinating, as well as good company. Snakes either viewed him as a threat, prey, or a nonthreat. They didn't consider him to be a mistake, or broken person. Despite the risks involved, he began handling the wild snakes, sure to be as nonthreatening and unsurprising as possible, so that they wouldn't bite him. He was very good at handling the snakes, and normally had no problems whatsoever.
When it happened, Charon was exploring some nearby caverns, one of the rattlers that he'd befriended hanging loosely along his shoulders, along for the ride. He had gotten deep into the caves, the way lit only by his flashlight, when booming and the far-off sound of sirens wound their way down into the echo-filled caves. The rattler started struggling, and nearly fell onto the rocks at the bottom of the cave; unthinking of his own safety, Charon worried that the fall might seriously injure the serpent, and reached out to grab the rattlesnake. He was bitten, and let go in surprise. It wasn't long before the migraines and dizziness set in, and the world began to swim. Only... it was a bit too soon, for it to have been the venom. Radiation had found its way down to where he was, as well, and as he blacked out this time, things would never be the same again.
When Charon awoke, his flashlight was dimly glowing on the floor of the cave, and the rattler lie dead just a short ways off, killed in the radiation wave. Disoriented and confused, he couldn't remember much of what had happened just before the radiation wave, and picked his way home, slowly. His parents were shocked to see him; he was incredibly pale and dazed, his eyes a striking blue instead of their usual brown. Being as disoriented as he was, Charon didn't fight it as his parents took him to the local hospital (Mercy), and admitted all three of them for radiation poisoning. Both of his parents died from radiation poisoning in the hospital, but Charon found that he not only lived, but had changed as well. He was able to pull energy from other people, which eased his usual headaches and dizziness, and as long as he did this, he no longer had blackouts. For him, it was quite the improvement. He was also able to read people even more clearly than before the radiation.
Unfortunately, the hospital was equally interested in his newfound abilities, and he was detained there for research purposes.
The Scientists eventually allowed Charon to have a piebald ball python, after the fits he threw, being locked up without even one of his beloved serpents to keep him company. Although it has a very nice terrarium in Charon's hospital chamber, it's usually seen hanging loosely around his neck.
